As part of the Regional Industry Education Partnership (RIEP) program, Year 10 students from Albury High School joined peers from across the region in a week-long immersive health careers experience.
Hosted by Albury Wodonga Health, students visited major education and training providers including TAFE NSW, Wodonga TAFE, Charles Sturt University, and La Trobe University. The program offered hands-on exposure to a wide range of health professions through practical simulations and interactions with healthcare professionals.
For Albury High’s Harry Carty, the experience opened up new possibilities:
“There’s a couple [of careers] I’m considering – pharmacy, physiotherapy, and medicine. I want to stay local too,” Harry said.
Classmate Olivia Farnsworth also felt inspired, especially after experiencing empathy-building simulations and talking to occupational therapists and psychologists:
“It helps you to understand what others are going through... I realised I want a career where I can help people,” she said.
Both students praised the opportunity to explore career paths without needing to leave the region, aligning with Albury Wodonga Health’s goal of encouraging local students to consider regional healthcare careers.
We’d like to extend our thanks to journalist Madilyn McKinley and The Border Mail for shining a spotlight on our students and helping highlight the power of regional education and opportunity.
