Sienna has had an extraordinary year in the pool, with her achievements in 2024 setting the stage for even greater success in the future. From breaking records to earning multiple medals at prestigious events, her dedication to swimming has rightfully earned her the title of Albury High School Sportsperson of the Year.
In 2024, Sienna's exceptional performance in school swimming continued to impress, earning her the Female Swimmer of the Meet award at the School Sport Australia Championships for the second consecutive year. Her relentless pursuit of excellence was on full display at the NSWCHS Championships, where she captured six individual gold medals in the 15 years age group, including victories in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, and 200m Individual Medley. Notably, Sienna set a new record in the 100m breaststroke, breaking her own record in both the heat and the final. Her remarkable performance also earned her the Riverina Medal for the second year in a row, reinforcing her reputation as one of the region's top swimmers.
At the NSW All-Schools Championships, Sienna dominated once again, claiming six individual gold medals in the 15/16 years age group. Her victories included the 50m and 100m freestyle, 200m Individual Medley, and setting records in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke. Sienna also contributed to the team’s gold medal success by swimming the butterfly leg in the 15/16 medley relay.
The School Sport Australia Games on the Gold Coast saw Sienna continue her winning ways, with victories in the 15 years 50m and 100m breaststroke, 15-16 years 200m Individual Medley, 200m breaststroke, and multiple relay golds, including the 4x50m freestyle, 10x50m freestyle, and 4x50m medley relays. She also earned top-three finishes in several other events, including 2nd in the 100m freestyle and 3rd in the 50m freestyle, adding to her growing medal collection. Sienna's leadership skills were also evident, as she was selected to join the leadership group of the NSW All-Schools team. Her sportsmanship, positive attitude, and humility were widely praised by fellow athletes, staff, and officials alike.
On the national stage, Sienna’s success continued. She won gold in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley at the Swimming Australia National Age Championships, as well as silver in the 200m breaststroke. At the Open Nationals, Sienna earned silver in the 50m breaststroke and placed 5th in the 100m breaststroke final. Her performance at the Olympic Trials in Brisbane was especially thrilling. Sienna led the 100m breaststroke final for the first lap, ultimately finishing 3rd with a time of 1:07.01, just 0.11 seconds off qualifying for the Paris Olympics. This time broke the long-standing record of Liesel Jones, set when she took silver at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the same event.
Sienna's international success expanded further when she represented Australia as part of the Junior Dolphins at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Canberra. There, she won silver in the 100m breaststroke and 4x100m medley relay. She also toured Japan with the NSW Mighty Blues team, securing silver in the 50m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m breaststroke at the Tokyo Open.
Throughout the year, Sienna earned several prestigious accolades, including the Riverina Honour Blue, recognizing her excellence both in and out of the pool. She was also named Southern Sports Academy Athlete of the Year and, most notably, Albury High School Sportsperson of the Year at the school’s presentation day in December.
As 2024 came to a close, Sienna's success continued into the summer holidays. She represented Swimming NSW at the South Australian Open Championships, winning the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke events. Sienna also attended her induction as a member of the New South Wales Institute of Sport’s swimming squad, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in her swimming career.
Sienna’s achievements in 2024 are a testament to her incredible talent, relentless drive, and commitment to her sport.
