At Albury High School, the Humanities faculty (HSIE) occupies the upstairs and downstairs rooms in F Block. This hive of activity is home to a large variety of senior school subjects which currently includes Economics, Geography, Ancient and Modern History, History Extension, Business Studies, Legal Studies, Society & Culture, and Work Studies.

The staff in our faculty are experts in their subjects and passionate about extracting the best from each and every one of their students.

Legal Studies:

F16 is the home of Legal Studies and it is a hub of debate, discussion and analysis. Legal Studies is a dynamic subject that explores the foundations and functions of the law in society.  The course covers a range of contemporary topics including Crime, Human Rights, Family Law and Indigenous Peoples law. We take current cases from the media and courts, and examine them from varying perspectives including the victim, offender and society. 

Modern History

Modern History at Albury High School is an exciting deep dive into the events and people that shaped the world we live in today! From revolutions and world wars to the rise of dictators and the fight for human rights, you'll uncover the stories behind some of history’s most dramatic moments. Want to know how the world got to where it is now? This course is for you! You’ll get to dig into things like the rise of Nazi Germany, the Cold War spy games, and even research a topic that you’re passionate about in you Historical Investigation. It’s all about making connections between the past and the present, and understanding how history shapes our future.

Ancient History

In Ancient History, students dive into fascinating civilisations like Greece, Rome, and Mesopotamia, exploring everything from legendary leaders and epic battles to mysterious myths and daily life in ancient cities. Geography

The senior Geography course at Albury High School, launching with an exciting new syllabus in 2024, is a dynamic exploration of our ever-changing world! Studying Geography at Albury High usually involves trips to Melbourne to study urban dynamics, as well as lots of local area fieldwork, and  a visit to Falls Creek to examine an ecosystem and it’s risk factors.

With a hands-on approach, the course combines fieldwork, critical analysis, and engaging discussions, encouraging students to think critically about geographical concepts and their real-world applications. From mapping local ecosystems to analyzing global trends, learners will develop essential skills in research, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Society & Culture

Society and Culture is all about exploring how the world works, and how you fit into it.
