Home Economics

Head Teacher: Ms Lisa Higham

The Home Economics faculty offers diverse courses that engage students in practical experiences, enhancing their understanding of contemporary issues and advancing technologies. Students develop solutions to identified problems and situations and produce products in a practical setting.

Our Food Technology and Hospitality kitchens, along with our Textile Design practical rooms, are well-equipped and carefully maintained. Our qualified and dedicated staff are committed to delivering lessons that enhance students' knowledge and skills in the areas of food, textiles, and hospitality.

All students participate in Technology Mandatory in Years 7 and 8. Through this subject, students are offered a range of learning experiences that encourage both independent and collaborative learning. They also develop skills in designing, planning, managing and evaluating, which are transferrable across the curriculum.

In Stage 4, Technology Mandatory (Year 7 & 8) is compulsory and can include several subjects including food technology and texiles.

These courses focus on developing knowledge, understanding, and skills to positively impact the well-being of children and families within the community.

VET Courses: In Stage 6, we also offer VET Food and Beverage, and VET Kitchen Operations. These vocational education courses are designed to prepare students for further education, training, and employment in the hospitality industry.

In accordance with Work Health and Safety policies, AHS staff and students participating in  ALL  Home Economics practical lessons for Years 7-12 are required to wear  fully enclosed leather shoes  as part of their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
